Each year, millions of shoes end up in landfill. Because footwear is made from so many different materials, it can be tricky to dispose of responsibly - and that’s something we care deeply about changing.
In 2019, we partnered with Save Our Soles, a Melbourne-based initiative that recycles old shoes and tyres into durable rubber mats. Once those mats have served their purpose, they’re returned to be recycled again - creating a truly circular process.
In 2025, the rubber recycling landscape has become more challenging than ever. With limited industry support, we have evolved our processes to further reduce our environmental impact.
We have also diversified our recycling partnerships, expanding beyond Save Our Soles to include UPPAREL. UPPAREL is an Australian-based textile recovery and recycling company known for its transparent, incentivised approach to waste diversion. UPPAREL decommissions shoes in full and partners with a range of organisations to ensure each component is responsibly processed and kept out of landfill.
While our Save Our Soles and UPPAREL are currently options in our Australian and New Zealand stores, we encourage our international community to seek out similar footwear recycling programs locally. Many regions now offer textile or footwear recycling initiatives - a quick search online or check with your local council can point you in the right direction.
Together, we can help keep shoes out of landfill and give them a second life. ♻️
