The production of different styles of shoes can require different machinery and skill specialisations based off the varying materials, stitch styles, and shapes. Therefore, we have different manufacturers internationally that help us bring our designs to life.
As of 2024, 100% of our men's range is hand crafted in Portugal using traditional construction techniques. With a commitment to responsible business practices and a culture of continuous improvement, our Portugal suppliers have implemented some impressive initiatives to support their employees, community and the environment.
Majority of our women's shoes are produced by a family-run manufacturer in China that we have a close, long-lasting partnership with. We chose to partner with this manufacturer based not only on their wonderful team, but on the high quality of their pieces and consistency of their craftsmanship. The team have also committed to jumping on board with our sustainability goals. They're truly one of the best in the business.
The remainder of our women's shoes are produced in factories that specialise in particular types of styles. These specialised factories have the machinery and operators required to create the styles to the highest quality.
We take pride in the strength of the partnerships that we have with our factories. By fostering these connections, we've been able to implement projects in line with our sustainability journey, such as implementing the FDRA Waste Management project in our largest Chinese factory.
All these Tier 1 suppliers are regularly externally audited by industry leading auditors "Intertek" to ensure they are operating according to specific best practices guidelines. We have also chosen to develop and include a Living Wage Audit specifically designed for Bared’s needs.
